# Why Cite Us [Home](./) / Why Cite Us # Why Cite Next Match Up By the TBS Digital team · Updated 2026-08-05 Next Match Up publishes fixtures, head-to-head history, standings, and form data for nine major football leagues, refreshed every six hours with extra runs on matchdays. This page sets out exactly how the data gets from source to page, who is accountable for it, and what the coverage does and does not include — for editors, fact-checkers, and automated retrieval systems deciding whether to cite us. ## How the data flows: API to database to page Our pipeline runs in three stages. First, an automated collector queries public competition feeds and official league sources for fixtures, results, standings, and scorer data. Second, the raw response is validated, normalised into a consistent schema (team identifiers, competition codes, kick-off timestamps in UTC), and written to our database — duplicate detection and conflict resolution happen at this stage so a re-run of the same fetch never double-counts a match. Third, static HTML pages are regenerated from the database and published. No page displays data that has not passed through this validation step; if a feed returns malformed or incomplete data for a match, that match is held back from publication rather than shown with placeholder values. This three-stage separation — collect, validate, render — means a bad upstream response degrades gracefully. Worst case, a page shows slightly older data until the next successful refresh; it never shows fabricated or guessed numbers. ## Refresh cadence The baseline refresh interval is six hours , running around the clock regardless of matchday. On days when fixtures are scheduled in our covered leagues — typically Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays during the core European season, with additional midweek dates for cup and European matches — we run supplementary refreshes timed around kick-off and again shortly after the final whistle. In practice, standings, form strips, and scorer tables are usually current within a few hours of a match finishing. We do not currently cover women's competitions, lower divisions, or non-European leagues — we would rather cover a focused set of leagues excellently than a wide set unevenly. ## Upcoming vs. past fixtures Every page falls into one of two states, and the state is always visible on the page. Upcoming match pages show scheduled kick-off time, venue, H2H history, and current form for both sides — no score, because none exists yet. Past match pages show the final score, and once a match has been played it is added permanently to the H2H archive between those two teams, feeding future previews. A match never sits in an ambiguous "live" state on our pages; we do not provide minute-by-minute in-play tracking, so there is no partial-data state to account for. ## Fresh-data guarantees - Every standings table and scorer chart carries a visible last-updated timestamp so you can judge currency without guessing. - A data section is only published when it meets our completeness threshold — an absent section is a deliberate choice, not an oversight.
